iRead4Skills Contributes to MEGASKILLS Final Event on Future Skills

On 11 December 2025, the Horizon Europe sister project MEGASKILLS held its Final Event in Brussels, bringing together experts and stakeholders to reflect on the future of skills in Europe. The iRead4Skills project was proud to be represented by our Team Leader, Thomas François, who contributed to a key panel discussion.

Thomas, an Associate Professor in NLP and Applied Linguistics at UCLouvain and a key scientific lead within iRead4Skills, joined fellow experts to explore the central role of soft skills in Europe’s skills strategy.

Key takeaways from the session included:

  • Soft skills are now recognised as critical drivers for enabling the green transition, boosting competitiveness, and increasing productivity across all sectors.

  • Transversal skills are permanent, they form the enduring foundation of every job, regardless of technological change or sectoral shifts.

Thomas connected these themes to the iRead4Skills mission, highlighting how AI and natural language processing can support the assessment and development of readability and language-based competencies, a vital component of broader skill sets.

The event underscored the strong collaborative synergy between our two sister projects, both funded under Horizon Europe, and highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in shaping the future of learning and skills validation.

We extend our gratitude to the MEGASKILLS consortium for the invitation and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing innovative approaches to skills development across Europe.
