Open Call: Special Issue on Readability and Textual Complexity

The journal Langue(s) & Parole has an open call for a special issue dedicated to readability and textual complexity, with scientific editing by researchers from the European iRead4Skills project. The deadline for submitting articles has been extended to 30 June 2025.

The call invites submissions that explore innovative ways of assessing and adapting text complexity, with a particular focus on educational and multilingual contexts. Papers that combine linguistics, education and language technologies are particularly welcome.

Topics of interest include:

  • New methods for automatic assessment of readability, including models based on artificial intelligence and large language models;
  • Studies on lexical and syntactic complexity, with application to corpora annotated by levels of difficulty;
  • Natural language processing tools applied to adapting texts for different audiences;
  • Strategies to improve accessibility and use of real-time textual evaluation systems.

Articles can be submitted in Portuguese, French, Spanish, Catalan or English, and will be assessed on the basis of their scientific quality, thematic relevance and contribution to studies on textual complexity.

Important dates:

  • Initial submission: until 30 June 2025
  • Notification to authors: 3 July 2025
  • Final submission: 20th September 2025
  • Expected publication: by 31 December 2025
