iRead4Skills Team Coordinates Langues et Parole Volume 10

iRead4Skills has coordinated the publication of a special issue of the renowned academic journal Langues & Parole.

The recently released Volume 10 of the journal represents a concerted effort to bridge cutting-edge linguistic theory with practical technological applications aimed at enhancing reading and accessibility. The iRead4Skills consortium, known for its work in developing intelligent reading assistance tools, led the editorial process for this edition, curating contributions from leading international experts.

A Convergence of Research and Practical Innovation

This special issue focuses on the critical intersection where computational linguistics meets human literacy. Featured research articles investigate pressing topics such as automatic text simplification, readability assessment for diverse audiences, and the application of artificial intelligence in supporting readers with learning differences.

“Coordinating this volume allowed us to highlight how theoretical research directly informs the tools we build,” said a representative from the iRead4Skills project. “The studies published here provide essential scientific grounding for developing more effective, evidence-based reading technologies.”

Key Themes and Global Impact

The publication includes multidisciplinary studies from institutions across Europe, addressing:

  • Computational Models for analyzing text complexity

  • Empirical Studies on reading comprehension processes

  • Innovative Methodologies in language education and assessment

  • Cross-linguistic Approaches to text adaptation and simplification

This compilation arrives at a pivotal moment when digital literacy and accessible information have become increasingly vital for social participation and educational equity worldwide.

Meet the Scientific Coordinators

The special section was coordinated by five leading researchers from the iRead4Skills consortium:

  • Raquel Amaro (NOVA University Lisbon), project coordinator.

  • Jorge Baptista (University of Algarve & INESC-ID Lisboa), a specialist in computational lexicons and Portuguese language processing.

  • Thomas François (UCLouvain), an expert in computational readability and text simplification.

  • Marcos García (University of Santiago de Compostela), whose work focuses on computational linguistics and readability modeling.

  • Rodrigo Wilkens (University of Exeter), who researches natural language processing at the intersection of linguistics and explainable AI.

Open Access for Broad Dissemination

In alignment with iRead4Skills’ commitment to knowledge sharing and collaboration, the entire volume is available through open access. Researchers, educators, and technology developers can freely access the complete issue and the editorial introduction online.
